Memories of Lille, the Tarte flamande

The high point of my lunch time in Lille

Last year I was in Lille, France. Some of the surprises, both good and meh, was the food.

It was very hard to get really hot spiced food, and I’ve tried. On the other hand I had great bacon, wonderful cheeses, bread, found madeleines to be sold in bags, nutella was always an option and pretty much everywhere, and did I mention the cheeses?

But still one food makes me missing it the most, Tarte Flamande from the Boulangerie et Patisserie Emélie. It is a creamy tart with slices of almonds and apples. So creamy and rich.

If you plan to bake something soon, please consider this.

UPDATE:

Yes it can have two kind of fillings either custard or frangipane (a filling made with almonds). I’ve tried both but the first one that I’ve tried was with custard and I was hooked. When I tried the one with frangipane it felt not right and not as delicious as the custard one.
