Mote com huesillos - and earthquake update

We are in santiago. It was a hot day and one of the first things we did was take the funicular to see the city from above.

When we got to the top there were a couple of stands selling “Mote com huesillos”

As I can’t resist something new I asked for one.

And to be clear about my ignorance I’ve never heard/read of it before.

I was expecting Yerba mate with something in it.

Well first thing you notice is: it has corn in it. Lots!

When you taste it the second thing that you notice is that it is sweet. A lot!

But don’t call it yet!

It has something inside! It looked at fist like a huge dumpling..

Looking it carefully it was not a dumpling but a organic something.

Next theory was that it was the GIANTEST SINGLE GRAIN OF CORN possible.

Well. It is a dried peach.

The peach is great! the rest of the drink is a little too sweet to me.

It is said to be refreshing..

Could it be that I was on the shade with the cold wind from the Andes blowing but I did feel refreshed

The earthquake came when I was still awake and it took a while to consider that it was an earthquake.

Most of the damage that I could see was superficial.. plaster and paint down.

Ever 5 blocks or so we would find a window plane broken on the streets, Damage was much worse to the south, where we were planing to go next.

We are revising our plans on what to do next.
